The Antique Collection began in 2000 and comes out each autumn: long-aged bourbons and ryes, three of them bottled uncut and unfiltered at whatever strength the barrels give. Because those are not diluted or standardised, each year differs from the last, and collectors follow them by vintage rather than by name. Quantities are small and allocated rather than sold.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe names on those bottles are the distillery's own history. William Larue Weller, born 1825, was the whiskey merchant whose name went on to the wheated recipe — wheat in place of rye, for a softer bourbon — that also lies behind Pappy Van Winkle. Thomas H. Handy was the New Orleans merchant whose house is credited with putting rye at the base of the Sazerac, and the rye under his name is the high-rye counterpart to Weller's wheat.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe distillery earned the right to those names. It stands in Frankfort, Kentucky, on a site that has made whiskey through most of the industry's history: Colonel E.H.
