Germany

German wine is produced primarily in the west of Germany, along the Rhine river and its tributaries. Some of the oldest vineyards were planted in the Roman era.

The largest producing state is Rhineland-Palatinate, where 60% of the wines are produced and is home to 6 of the best quality wine regions. Famously known for their Riesling, Germany is predominantly a white wine producing country and the eighth largest wine producer in the world – releasing about 1.3 billion bottles of wine annually. However recent demand has seen a rise in in Pinot Noir or Spätburgunder giving wine drinkers a more diverse range from producers.
