Karuizawa: The Crane & Rooster
A matched pair of single-cask Karuizawa, bottled by the Number One Drinks Company for Tokyo's Shinanoya. Known to collectors as the "Crane & Rooster." Both originally from The Whisky Exchange, excellent fill and seals, original boxes.
Karuizawa 29 Year Old — 1984, Sherry Cask #3662 ("The Crane"). Bottled 2014 for Shinanoya and The Whisky Exchange. One of only 271 bottles. Deep mahogany; dried fruits, dark chocolate and old leather.
Karuizawa 32 Year Old — 1981, Sherry Cask #4380 ("The Rooster"). A private bottling for Shinanoya's 10th anniversary, with a gold "10" neck seal. Just 118 bottles. Raisins, chocolate and pastry, with an incense-like umami depth.

Producer profile
Karuizawa was built in 1955 by the wine company Daikoku Budoshu, on the southern slopes of Mount Asama, one of Japan's most active volcanoes. Distilling stopped on the last day of 2000 and never resumed; the buildings came down in 2016.
