Sir Peter Blake's label chronicles the people who worked the distillery mid-century, and one decision in particular: George Harbinson, who took the business on in 1947 after wartime closure and the death of its young chairman, ruled from a tiny office in the 1970s that The Macallan would stay faithful to sherry-seasoned oak under pressure to compromise. It still does. The original bottle went into the Macallan Archives; these carry replicas of its label, boxed in European oak with a green leather book of 13 artworks from the collection.

The Macallan's tasting notes: antique oak, dried fruit and fig on the nose; warm chocolate, nutmeg and ginger opening into pineapple and coconut; a finish of chocolate, sweet oak and spiced peach.
