Thomas H Handy Sazerac (Buffalo Trace), Straight Rye
Thomas H. Handy started as a clerk at the Sazerac House in New Orleans and owned it by 1869, later holding the American rights to Sazerac de Forge et Fils cognac. When cognac supplies waned he championed rye whiskey as the base of the Sazerac instead — which is how one of America's first cocktails came to be made the way it is.
The rye named after him is part of Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection, released each autumn; E.H. Taylor Bottled-in-Bond joined the line-up in 2025. It is bottled uncut and unfiltered, straight from the barrel, so the strength and the whiskey change with every release.
