The Macallan Golden Age of Travel: The Ocean Liner

The first release in the series, and the one that set its terms. The whisky was distilled at Easter Elchies in 1937, first bottled in 1971 at thirty-four years old, and held until 2015 when it was decanted into Lalique crystal for this release. It is worth being precise about that: the stated age is thirty-four years, the age at first bottling. The decades since have been spent in glass, not in cask.

The Golden Age of Travel is a five-part series released by The Macallan in partnership with Lalique between 2015 and 2019, each expression presented in a Lalique crystal decanter evoking one mode of 1930s travel — sea, air, rail, road, and finally the airship. Each decanter is housed in a leather presentation case made by Piñavall of Ubrique, Spain, built in the manner of a period travel trunk. The series was sold exclusively through global travel retail and The Macallan's own boutiques.
